IPTV does not use Internet. It uses the local network. So no, Airtel IPTV would not work in USA. Or on non Airtel connections.

IPTV means internet protocol television. it uses the internet protocol not internet. it uses the same wiring that is used for your broadband connection. it consumes some of the capacity of the cabling. but it is not connected to your broadband account or broadband consumption.

well you are not looking at the big picture. even if it worked through the net, it would have been totally illegal to access it from the united states. airtel does not have the rights for international broadcasts of the programming.

we cannot watch american programming here in india for the same reason. technology exists. but the licensing issues does not allow for international broadcasts through the internet. hulu for example is not accessible outside the united states for the same reason.

ya but see if I want to get Indian channels here they are about $70 plus hidden bs fees about $80 a month tht is nuts.
airtel should think about providing Indian channels here in us, tht would be awesome, that put down Dishnetwork n Directtv monopoly of over charging for Indian channels.

you are not getting it. airtel is helpless. so are other service providers in the united states (and elsewhere in the world).

the content is controlled by the companies running the channels. it is the price they want for international broadcasts.

if you look at the big picture... producing content is an expensive task and well you gotta pay for it if you want to access it.

otherwise there are plenty of sources where you can get the content without paying big bucks.

if Airtel can provide phone service why not cable service?
and phone service is even more risk if not handled properly.

phone services requires just the permission from the government to operate the service. you do not have to rely on other parties for that.

running a television service requires you to be dependent upon content providers. without content, there is nothing you can do. right?

for telephone services, you pay money to government for licenses and spectrum. you need something similar for IPTV and DTH as well. but content has to be sourced by the media giants.

Different countries have different licensing & regulation for offering their services. All TV operators acquire license for particular region/country for their area of operation, and they are allowed to operate only in that area. So even if Indian DTH can be viewed in neighbouring countries, operators cannot legally charge or do business there. Same way Sky took license for operating in India (as TATASKY by partnering TATA).
Other thing about content. Content providers/channels too have regional regulations while broadcasting contents in particular regions and so TV operator have to take care of their signals not spilled over to other nations creating legal trouble. E.g. DD Direct+ had to reduce beam signal of TP broadcasting DD1 channel having live cricket as these was affecting business of paid channels in neighbouring nations who paid premium rates for acquiring content. Similarly STAR/ZEE/SONY have to mask/blur any brand names displayed in any programmes while broadcasting in UK, because UK has strict rules about displaying any promotional brands during TV programmes.

And IPTV works in close network of operator and cannot really work on open internet. What works on open internet in Youtube
