Airtel Customer Care is now chargeable @ 50p/3 mins. IVR is free, only the interaction with any CC agent is charged. Update is for Kolkata circle. Not sure of other circles. Request for update from other circle users please !

heh. well sucks then. TRAI should have made it mandatory for the mobile companies to have a functional online backend to manage their mobile connections.
tata indicom has done pretty nicely. i can check last couple of bills, check what plan i am on, change my plan, apply/remove add-on packages and so on. i actually have no need to call in to customer care.

The same thing is also available for Airtel and Vodafone where users can log in and manage their account with "My Airtel/My Vodafone Account" and perform the operations as mentioned by you. Not sure of other operators though.
Anyways...As of now Vodafone has no call center charging. Lets see when it gets implemented for Kolkata.
