Hello dudes and gals(applies only if u r cute) :p ,
Well my problem is that i cannot access certain sites namely howstuffworks.com, nvidia.com, etc(haven't found many yet).
so my first doubt was DNS, but then i remembered i was using Treewalk, so i tried some sites with "nslookup", it turned out that DNS is fine.
so i visited this forum and started looking up, i found a chap with that MTU prob, so i tried fixing my MTU from 1492 to 1454, But even that didn't fix it.
so i started pinging those sites, ahhh that gave some strange results,
Here's a ping of "www.nvidia.com"
Pinging a1650.g.akamai.net [210.212.26.88] with 32 bytes of data:

Here's ping of "www.howstuffworks.com"

That 61.0.230.77 is NIB delhi gateway (found through whois)
and that akamai is a company that provides a distributed computing platform for global Internet content and application delivery, whose headquarters are in Cambridge, Massachusetts. (found through wiki)
BTW even akamai.com doesn't load up.
i have observed that both howstuffworks and nvidia are somehow related or are customers of akamai.
So, is the NIB gateway blocking akamai or is there something else.
or am I a monkey that is hanging onto the wrong branch (if you know what i mean)
Please give your 2cents regarding it (wont mind even if you give a gazallion, bazallion, or zillion bucks)
additional note: I can access them through a proxy

Well hello, essbebe!
OK here's the "Janama Kundali" (ipconfig /all) of my connection on win 7 beta.
ok I admit I deleted only the ipv4 address and the physical address and of my lan card but that's only for security purposes, am willing to PM it to you if you require it though.

Tcp/ip optimizer does not work on win 7 beta have tried it on xp though.

Don't pay much attention to the MTU it cannot be increased more than that, its actually 1454 in win7, here's the netsh of that
MTU MediaSenseState Bytes In Bytes Out Interface
------ --------------- --------- --------- -------------
4294967295 1 0 276088 Loopback Pseudo-Interface 1
1454 1 263025 143605 DataLine
1454 1 14272 285586 Local Area Connection
Doing that didn't help though.(setting it to 1454 frm 1492)
if you need me to get info from win xp, i can do that too, didn't do it because the post has become way too large.
would like to add that i am experiencing these problems only on sites whose content is mirrored by akamai.
check out this guys post
Akamai Cached Sites not Opening
----------
C'mon people don't tell me I am the only one who has to go through this ugly gateway that's been blocking akamai clients, not that i wouldn't like to be treated as a VIP and be given a separate International Gateway to surf and download, but this thing is bloody annoying , i mean there should be hundreds or thousands of other users who have to go through this damned gateway.
Post if you have similar problems. Or atleast tell me if you could access these sites ("www.howstuffworks.com", "www.nvidia.com") with your gateway normally.
Here's a list of other sites i got from this guy's post at broadband forum
Akamai Cached Sites not Opening
hindustantimes.com
news.com.au
wired.com
cricinfo.com
in.com
moneycontrol.com
startribune.com
nbc.com
huffingtonpost.com
dailypress.com
businessweek.com
try these sites too and post your experiences.
also if anybody can PM the direct link for latest win7 beta nvidia drivers i'd be grateful (and don't go on forgetting that i cannot access nvidia, please provide links to sites that don't use akamai mirrors.)
Huh? so nobody else is experiencing this problem, everybody else can access these akamai mirrored sites just fine ?
it's just me then. all "akela dukela" ?
< checking akamai customer list >
WHOA! DAMN! nearly 1/3 of major organizations i know are on their customer list.
and here's a real shocker, I can access nvidia ftp servers just fine, i guess they don't mirror those, couldn't find win7 beta drivers due to all that clutter they have made in their ftp server though.
They're working fine for me.
Oh and if u need a TCP optimizer for Win7 try Yamisoft Win 7 manager.
It's your router. My friend had the same problem. He couldn't even access youtube.
Then his father called up a guy from BSNL (his father's a lawyer). That guy said it's because of the router, he got a new router and his net's been alright since then.
Ask the BSNL guys to change your router if it's rented, they'll do it for free. If you bought the router from BSNL, then consider buying a better one yourself.
I have faced same problem but was able to solve using openDNS service..![]()
well i should probably eat my own shoe ! or maybe both!![]()
that did work nikhil!
I suppose I owe you an apology! well, here it goes I am sorry
I was gonna call you a bloody idiot and give you a virtual slap ! for mistaking me for a noob who can't tell the difference between his thumb and his *ahem* unmentionable. (not really though, due to the forum rules) :p
Frankly I never believed what I used since the beginning of broadband (the day mtnl and bsnl released broadband) would suddenly become a culprit.
Well the truth is, I never trusted external DNS servers (opendns and the like) and still don't i am not sure if they store the sites we visit in their database and later sell them to a third party, therefore I used treewalk which hosts a DNS sever locally (more info can be found out here h**p://ntcanuck.com/twfaq/twdoes.htm replace the ** with tt ), it worked flawlessly over the years, it resolved DNS entries that even openDNS couldn't resolve. It did work for me untill a week ago, when i started to get "website couldn't load, time expired" errors on akamai mirrored sites.
I still don't get it though, i did check with nslookup, treewalk was resolving the hostnames to ip addresses even those of the akamai mirrors, its just that when i ping'd them i got that "TTL expired in transit" error.
Any real or self proclaimed networking pundits in the forum would care the explain what the heck is happening, why has treewalk suddenly stopped working and that to in a strange way!.
.... and once again I am sorry dude, my bad, no hard feelings huh? Repped you!
and *cough* on a separate note my unmentionable is waaaaay bigger than than my thumb. (just thought I would clear that for the gals)![]()
