What/where will the wireless router uplink to?
In the case that we are forced to use Ethernet from the gate to your apartment, the uplink is to the equipment which supplies your building.

Get 2 Hayai connections at home and share files at 1 Gbps
Nice if your hard disk can handle it

Now where did I put that RAID 5 array of mine?

Jokes apart, it's great to have the network disappear into the background as a non-issue so that we may focus our energies on other things than bitching about broadband providers in the country.

Next year's discussions will be around which YouTube server farm gives us the best throughput

Hopefully ours. We peer with Google, but would be nice to get Youtube India on our network/in our DC... then NIXI would hugely be to our advantage!

This is the CPE that I have been salivating over:
    Basic features:
    • 802.11N at 300mbit/s
    • 4x Gigabit Ethernet Ports
    • 2x Phone Ports (VOIP)
    • 2x USB Ports (for Network Attached Storage)
    • 1x CATV Port (for normal TV's - optional)
    • 2x Gigabit Fiber-Optic uplinks

I'm not going to be able to take part in the internet revolution that Hayai will Usher.....

I'm leaving the country for 4 years and will only be in India over Summer and Christmas

And the way Hayai is going- its not launching before August and that's when I'm leaving

On the bright side free college Internet @hopefully blazing speed!!

But @MG- can I entrust you to give me a connection before I leave or have it done in my absence?

A quick question though.. You will get a cable to my building I assume?

Then you will connect building users to that cable. Now you would do that from the terrace?(thats where all the hatway/tatsaky/mtnl equipment is.)

I'm pretty sure you will not be able to break my ceilings to get fibre to my computer? (The reason- The cost of breaking and making would exceed 15-20 lakhs) + all the hassles I will go through

The wires that I have available are (all can reach the terrace or road)
    Ethernet-cat 5e
    Cat 6
    Cable
    Telephone

So how will the connection be given ?

Brand new fiber cables from the terrace to your apartment. We shouldn't have to break anything. Most buildings have cable access in stairwells or on the outside of the building; BUT if the society or whatever won't let us do that, then we can resort to Cat5e/Cat6 cables if we have no other option.
