DNS is cached at SO MANY LEVELS that root servers crashing wont affect it much. By the time the root servers come back online, people wouldn't even have noticed anything like this happening ;)

Re: Breaking News: The Entire Internet has Crashed The root servers are run by the following: VeriSign, University of Southern California's Information Sciences Institute, Cogent Communications, University of Maryland, NASA's Ames Research Center, Internet Systems Consortium, US Dept. of Denfence's Network Information Center, US Army Research Lab, Autonomica Sweden, RIPE, Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) & WIDE Japan. Level3 doesn't manage or run any of the root servers of the net.

You didn't get the point. If a big international backbone provider goes down then a lot of people will be disconnected all over the world. Whats the point of having root servers running if nobody can reach them??
