Re: Musharraf imposes emergency in Pakistan Not surprising, the crunch date was the middle of the month for the supreme court to approve his re-election in September. He would be President & Benazir would be PM in a power sharing agreement or so that was the plan.Originally Posted by Imranais
It was said if the supreme court did *not* approve then his only option to stay in power was to declare emergency. So that's my reading of it, they got air that maybe the election was going to be anulled. Emergency is a pre-emptive move.
It's really depressing how the countries surrounding us are all turning into hell holes. Look at Myanmar recently, Nepal is a mess, this morning a LTTE spokesman was bombed which means the tigers are going to be at war with the Sri Lankan's again. Bangaldesh is a farce, they are looking to emulate Islamabad.
Afghanistan is no better than with the Taliban, Iran is getting death threats, Iraq is blowing up.

India is a bit unique, geologically. Some time back I watched a simulation of pangaea the big land mass that broke up into the 7 continents eons ago. We were originally a part of Africa, broke away, sail north and slam into whats China now and thats how the himalays were formed. We still push north about an inch every year.

A Frankenstein Nation governed by a discredited regime has forfeited what little stakes it had to join the party in shaping Kashmir’s destiny. The events in Pakistan must leave a lasting impression on those Kashmiri minds that nurtured foolish hopes of a future with Pakistan. The message from Islamabad is loud and clear, there can be no meaningful future with Pakistan as Pakistan itself grapples with questions about its future.

..let us be clear, the best possible outcome for us, one for which we can do little, is that a discredited and besieged Musharraf continues in office — so that the fount of decisions remains preoccupied with his own problems. And that the Pakistan army remains encoiled in protracted and bloody hostilities with the extremists that it and ISI, and so on, have reared — so that the trust and working alliance between them is ruptured. If prayers are to be the only policy we are capable of, pray for these, not for democracy!
