    Default Reservation on Delhi Metro‽

YouTube - Gurgaon: male passengers beaten-up in metro

I seriously do not get it. I get it. They are breaking the rule by entering the compartment reserved for women.

But to push them around and hit them and publicly humiliate them? Are we living under the Taliban regime or what?

Are the cops allowed to deliver judgment and punishment on the spot without getting the judiciary involved?

This is insane. I am not sure how you can justify this kind of a behavior. Fine the guys who are in violation of the rules. Take them to some kind of a low level court. Get them to do community service. But hitting them? Seriously? This is disgusting.

Any lawyer reading this. Is this legal? Constitutional?

Kolkata Metro tried to reserve a coach in every metro train for women but had to remove the reservation soon. I wish the people in Delhi were much better wrt girls and women.

I don't find the video very surprising somehow. Maybe it's the fact that with cablegate and radiagate have surprised me too much.

If this is still going on, the women who beat up the boys/men should be taken to the local thana and charged.

But this seems suspicious -- the media and police with big guns are already there; no healthy person would go to the women's coach to get beaten up. There aren't any stories on this in Google News either. A friend of mine recently went to Gurgaon using the metro and reported no such thing happening. All this make it hard to believe this happens normally without the police with big guns. Had it been from a crappy video camera by a normal guy it would have better credibility.

duh. it was obviously staged. it has been in local newspapers here in gurgaon for a couple of days now.

so it was pretty clear that they invited media people to be around to record it.

their idea probably was to get it publicized so that men get the message.

but it is a pretty crappy way to deliver that message.

Large pink stickers on the platform indicate the cars for "women only." Women can also ride in mixed cars. The arrangement has been so popular that more women-only cars might be added, Dayal said.
    Great.

This is getting absurd. On one side, women asks for equality. And then on the other side, they get these special rights.

I understand the need for such coaches. But seriously... sending a message by beating up people? This is not Iran for god sake.

200 rupee fine is a joke. Put a fine of 1000 bucks. This is how much we are expected to pay for jumping a red light I believe. 1000 bucks fine would do good for the Metro.

1000 is also less now a days. I guess we should increase our fine levels beyond, and make sure that those penalized are forced to do community cleaning activities in public. Also the fines should not go to the police man's pocket.

I believe it was not as simple as men getting into the ladies coach and getting beaten up. They were initially asked to leave, but they refused to even when the coach started getting filled, and some resorted to the usual misbehaviour. That's when the police had to be called up.

1000 bucks is going to be a lot of money for folks who are traveling on Metro on a regular basis.

While I understand that there are rich folks traveling in Metro too. But I would assume that they are not the ones eve teasing women passengers.

And I would also assume that not everyone would be carrying (or having) 1000 bucks with them.

So, the best way out would be community services.

from what i see from the video... the cops were already inside the coach. and they were just waiting for men to enter.

the campaign has been running for a couple of days now. and there were reports that they would keep it running for around a week.

this camera footage pretty much proves that someone was stationed there to capture it all for broadcast purposes. the cops do not seem to have issues with the guy shooting them on camera.

funny enough, none of the reports i read in newspapers is showcasing it from the legal angle.

no matter how serious the offense it, i do not believe indian laws permit beating up people on the spot and getting them to do uthak bhaithak.

argh. alright. the cops enter the coach on that particular station. but they had the camera guy stationed along with them ready to capture it all!

looking at the cop smiling at the end... i get a feeling of disgust. instead of doing his duty properly, he was just amused to be filmed.

Good thought admin, but laws and rules always will not be sufficient. At times practicality should override the norms, unless our common sense and adherence to law reach international standards.

    Did this thread help you?

    Give it a or
Dean to Munnabhai: You would have to pay 200 if you enter Girl's hostel 1st time, 400 for 2nd time, 600 for 3rd time... and same way 200 more the number of times you go there!
Munnabhai: Mamu... monthly pass kitne kaa hai bol

    This is just a joke.

I support heavy punishment, if not beating. But today I feel Indian public is not afraid of any law. I can see people breaking traffic rules so easily, bribe paid for school/college admissions and in other govt offices (so sometimes such on-the-spot judgement may be useful :ashamed
