Practice Makes a Man Perfect but if No One is Prefect so WHY Practice?
give us official source
Another breaking news, Tatasky voted Superbrand for extortion!
----------
Ok now jokes apart. This is what I inferred from the Wiki
DVB-S2 is used for:
* Broadcasting television programs (BS, Broadcast Services) in SDTV or HDTV. Optionally, this transmission may be backwards compatible with DVB-S (Backwards-Compatible BS), but does not benefit from the 30% extra bandwidth.
* Interactive services with access to the Internet. Data generated by the user may be sent by cable (copper/fibre optic), DSL or satellite uplink (DVB-RCS).
* Professional applications, where data must be multiplexed in real time and then broadcast in the VHF/UHF band. These transmissions are not intended for the average viewer.
* Data content distribution and Internet trunking.

I get it now, My strong guess is that TS is planning to provide Internet services to people using their STBs
Good news.
But what is use of MPEG4 DVB S2 set top box ,because they don't have MPEG4 tech.
Is there any exchange offer for old subscribers?![]()
My guess is that Tatasky has no plans for MPEG4 or Internet as of now. But they have realised that after 4-5 yrs, when there are plenty of channels they will run out of transponders (they cant keep purchasing them).
Plus replacing old customers STB wud be too tough and costly after 4-5 years. So instead its better to provide MPEG2/4 compatible box right now so in future it doesnt cause much problem.
Within 4-5 years, old STBs may start giving problems so they AUTOMATICALLY get replaced by MPEG2/4 boxes! (may be at customers expense!)
Is there any discount offer for old customers?
Good news, Yes it will only be available for new customers.
Also it is true that their technology right now is Mpeg2 and will be same for few more years.Later on when they switch to mpeg4 they have to replace all old STB with half the STB price or so.
But point is will old customers take it if they are asked to pay some 1000rs for mpeg4 STB?
If you are Honest and Frank People will try to Cheat you.
BE HONEST AND FRANK ANYWAY.
^ I won't pay a single extra buck for a new STB irrespective of whether Tata Sky wants me to upgrade or not.
However, indya has brought another news to the group, which looks authentic, and if true, this is a nice step forward by Tata Sky.
